About
Michael Savins Photography Bio
My passion for photography was ignited from a young age, often borrowing my parents' Pentax film camera on the weekends and exploring the intricate headlands and lush rainforests of Northern NSW. In 1999, I moved to the Gold Coast as a boat builder, but my love for sketching, photography, and graphics soon led me to pursue a Diploma in Graphic Design. For over 24 years, I've honed my skills in graphics, animation, and various other visual arts. Yet, nothing compares to the thrill of capturing beautiful landscapes and wildlife moments. The challenge of adapting to the ever-changing conditions of landscape photography is a key part of what I love about it.
I have also developed a keen interest in wildlife and product photography. Capturing wildlife in its natural habitat requires patience, precision, and a deep respect for nature, allowing me to showcase the beauty and diversity of the animal kingdom. Both genres have broadened my perspective and refined my skills, making me a more versatile and adaptive photographer. Landscape and wildlife photography have given me the perfect excuse to explore new places and experiences that I might have never seen otherwise. It’s a great way to connect with nature, detach from the fast-paced city life, and bring a sense of focus and relaxation.
Seeing my work come to life on high-quality materials and beautifully framed is truly what makes photography so satisfying. It offers a depth that digital displays simply can't replicate. It’s the final cherry on top—being able to display my images printed and showcased in high resolution in public venues or people's homes definitely gives a sense of accomplishment and pride. Each print captures the essence of the moment in a way that's deeply fulfilling, representing the culmination of the whole creative process, from capturing the image to the final physical product.
I take great pride in the printing and framing process. All images are printed on archival grade ILFORD Cotton Rag Smooth paper using genuine Canon Chroma Optimiser inks. Archival-quality materials can last for decades or even centuries, ensuring that the images are of the highest quality and are preserved for future generations. All frames are meticulously hand-crafted by myself to suit each individual image using the highest quality materials—I wouldn't want to settle for cheaper pre-fabricated frames. 3mm float glass is used for optimal clarity and protection, and the borders are finished with premium 3mm mat board, adding a touch of sophistication to the overall presentation.
